Southampton City Council is starting work on its new Citywide Local Plan. It will provide a long term strategy to manage development, protect the environment and promote sustainable communities as well as deliver the growth identified in the South Hampshire Strategy and plan development in the city to 2036.

The Local Plan for Southampton is currently made up of the City Centre Action Plan (2015), Core Strategy including the changes fro the Core Strategy Partial Review (2015) and the ‘saved’ policies in the Local Plan Review (amended 2015).

Southampton City Council has produced a full Issues and Options Consultation Paper to look at how the challenges facing the city can be addressed and opportunities delivered. This paper is supported by the scoping report for the Sustainability Appraisal. It is the first stage in producing an appraisal which will assess the likely significant environmental, economic and social impacts of the plan.
