Strong passenger growth and new summer destinations from BAA Southampton Airport
BAA has today announced strong passenger growth at Southampton Airport during January. 109,322 people used the airport in January 2006, an increase of 9.4% on the same month last year, making an annual total of 1.85 million passengers.
January is often the time of year that people start to think of their summer holidays and a range of new routes have recently been announced for 2006. These include Angers, Avignon, Faro, Palma, Cherbourg and a year-round service to Chambery, all operated by Flybe.
Air France has announced extra capacity on its three-times daily service to Paris, and Eastern Airways will start a new service to the Isle of Man.
Jan Halliday, Director of Communications, Southampton Airport comments, “In the cold, grey days of January and February, people often book their summer holidays. I’m delighted that local people will have a bigger choice of holiday destinations this summer, with new routes to Portugal, France, Spain and the Isle of Man.”
