Meet the Buyers event set to boost local economy
16 March 2011
The South Hampshire Partnership has announced the fifth Meet the Buyers event to be held on Wednesday 23 March at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. This initiative enables major buying organisations within South Hampshire to meet local suppliers face-to-face.
There will also be “How to Win Public Sector Procurement Opportunities” workshops held across the South of Hampshire, including Guildhall Winchester on Tuesday 8 March – booking is essential and places are limited.
The event is designed to build local supply chains and is funded by the South Hampshire Meet the Buyers Partnership which includes Eastleigh Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, New Forest District Council, Test Valley Borough Council, and Winchester City Council.
At last year’s event, 90 suppliers and 21 buyers took part, with an estimated nearly £2.3million of business to be done as a result of the event. Each year, almost all suppliers who have attended have expected to do business with companies they met at Meet the Buyers.
Senior buyers from organisations such as Sothern Water, Packology, Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Mansell Plc, Balfour Beatty and New Forest District Council have already committed to take part. They will all be given a buying booth at the event, allowing them each to meet up to 40 small and medium sized businesses on the day.
Councillor Peter Wall said: “We are proud to be involved with this year’s event which is set to be the largest yet. It is a great opportunity for local businesses to meet with some of the biggest public and private sector organisations in the region and generate income for the local economy.”
This year the Partnership is offering more than just the one day event. This year a programme of events will help prepare people for a day of selling. “How to Sell Yourself” seminar will be held on 15th March at Eastleigh Borough Council to enable suppliers to pick up tips on how to best sell their products and services to major buyers. This will be run by Steve Miller, Expert Confidence and Motivational Practitioner, as seen on Sky 1's Fat Families.
