Business Seminar: How to raise your game

4 March 2011*

Property transactions remain at a record low, merger and acquisition activity continues to struggle for bank funding and public spending cuts are starting to bite.

Against that harsh backdrop, 2011 looks set to be another tough year for some professional practices across the Solent region.

The South Coast office of accountancy group Smith & Williamson, which has bucked the trend, is hosting a special seminar to look at current issues facing professional practices this year.

Topics include exploring merger propositions and the tax implications of corporate members and service companies, plus a bank’s view of the sector.

For light relief, there are thoughts on how to achieve high energy every day.

The complimentary seminar takes place on Tuesday, March 15 from 9.30am to 1pm at Chilworth Manor Hotel, Chilworth, near Southampton.

Guest speakers are Chris Marston, head of professional practices, Lloyds TSB Commercial, and Oliver Gray, the managing director of energiseYou, which provides employee wellbeing services to companies across the UK.

Speakers from Smith & Williamson are Richard Green, head of the Southampton office, who highlights key issues, and Andrew Edmonds, assurance and business services director, who looks at a typical merger process and considers critical success factors, potential pitfalls and how to make the right decisions.

Trudi Amy, corporate tax director at Smith & Williamson, considers the business and personal tax implications of topical alternative business structures, including corporate members and service companies. She poses the question: is incorporation the best way forward?
