Fruitful new shop in Bitterne precinct
14 Febuary 2011
Gannaways, a local fruit and vegetable trader, has opened a second store in Southampton by taking a new 10 yr lease of the former Homeplus Store in Bitterne Precinct opposite Iceland. The property was on the market with Keygrove Chartered Surveyors, the Southampton based commercial property agents.
Gannaways has been trading since 1970 is now in the hands of the 3rd generation of the Gannaway family. They have an existing store in Portswood High Street selling fruit and vegetables, flowers, chutneys and farmyard produce and jams, pet food and even Christmas trees.
John Gannaway says “This second property shows our commitment to assisting local neighbourhoods in the Southampton area and the feedback in the initial weeks has been really positive. People are glad to have a traditional “Fruit and Veg” shop back in their local communities.”
Mark Douglas of Keygrove says “Bitterne is a busy centre and has weathered the recession well. This new letting will assist in keeping Bitterne vibrant through 2011 and onwards”.
