National Oceanography Centre, Southampton
The National Oceanography Centre, Southampton (NOCS) is one of the world's top five oceanographic research institutions and leading centres of excellence dedicated to research and education in martime and earth sciences.
The NOCS is a collaborative Centre owned by the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and the University of Southampton. NOCS is based at a £50 million purpose-built waterside campus in Southampton (Empress Dock), and is home to some 520 research scientists, lecturing support and seagoing staff as well over 700 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Centre manages the national research vessel fleet and other major facilities; carries put strategic research for NERC, and academic research and education in ocean and earth sciences; and undertakes commissioned research, consultancy and collaborative projects for industry, government departments and agencies worldwide.
