Secondary education

Southampton City Council is the local education authority and has responsibility for community and secondary schools within the Southampton local authority boundary. Information on the admissions policy is available on the City Council's website.

All community secondary schools are comprehensive and have a designated catchment area for children aged from 11 to 16 and cater for children of all abilities. Most schools are for both girls and boys but there are also single sex schools.

Hampshire County Council is the local education authority for schools in Hampshire outside Southampton and Portsmouth.
